With the return of the majority of our colleges after a short break, we are working with many of them to pilot improved dashboards in preparation for the 24/25 academic year.

The hot topic is PowerBI

There has been a trend emerging in this academic year of increasing desire for increasing dashboard information scope, performance and accessibility.

Developing and combing concise data visuals for a single pane of glass has been the emphasis to drive these improvements which is facilitated heavily by consolidated datasets in the data warehousing (i.e. do the hard work before it hits the dashboard – SQL is your most powerful tool!).

Our popular methods of dealing with accessibility have been deploying through Microsoft SharePoint and Teams platforms (requiring a minimum of E5 / A5 to include PowerBI Pro licensing for the target audience individuals).

Why now?

The summer term is always a useful period to iron out any fourth coming major changes by reaching out for feedback from the intended target audiences.

The schedule includes running A/B tests on developed reports and dashboards, dry-run tests on management scripts (for data warehouse maintenance) and critically, data validation / quality walks across these products.

It also provides a reasonable period of time to establish familiarisation/ training as part of change management with staff prior to the summer break (which always comes round a lot quicker than anticipated!).
